BNI's origins go back to 1985 in Southern California where Dr Ivan R Misner was looking for a new way of generating business for his business consulting company. Dr. Misner invited several friends, each representing a different business together to find a way to help each find new busienss. Ten years later, in 1995, BNI had evolved into a Franchise business with Don and Nancy Morgan developing the BNI Franchise for Canada.
Don and Nancy assembled a team of founding Executive Directors to begin the building process. Several directors, Fran and Steve Lawson, Bruce Elliott and Bill Becks are still with BNI Canada today. Following the time tested process of word-of-mouth marketing, BNI Canada quickly grew from coast to coast in Canada and now has operations in most all Provinces.
BNI Directors have added more to the knowledge and understanding of word-of-mouth referral marketing more than ANY OTHER organization or company. Duirng the past eleven years, an average of one book per year was written and published about success through referral marketing by BNI Directors. Two of those books actually made their way to the Best Sellers List. This helps reassure members that they are getting the most up-to-date knowledge and understanding about generating business through referrals.
In 1996, the UK/European BNI operation was formed, which marked the beginning of BNI's expansion across five continents. Now operating in 22 countries, BNI has more than 3,600 chapters and 72,500 members, and clearly deserves the title of global leader in the industry of word-of-mouth referral marekting.
BNI Canada, with its ten-year proven track record is making a signifcant influence in the marketing industry. There are more than 225 BNI chapters operating in most all Provinces all supervised by about 60 full and part-time BNI Directors and Ambassadors.
