This week's networking nugget comes to us from one of the world's great statesmen, Sir Winston Churchill who once said: "We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give"

Sir Winston certainly had no idea of structured business referral groups, but I would suggest he was a brilliant networker.

Certainly we all join BNI for what we can get out of it. We are all after all in business and no one gets up this early once a week for the good of their health.

But the fundamental thing to remember is that the process of getting business referrals starts with the act of giving business referrals. For those few that get it in reverse, that is they receive before they have the opportunity to give, remember you are in the minority and this is not a one way street.

Good BNI members give without remembering and receive without forgetting.

Sir Winston got it right, giving is a life skill, just as good networking is also.
